Special adviser to President Bola Tinubu on information and strategy Bayo Onanuga has urged former Kogi State governor Yahaya Bello to turn himself in.
Bello, 48, was declared wanted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Thursday after evading arrest.
The ex-governor is wanted for allegedly laundering over N80 billion.
According to the commission, Bello’s last known address was 9, Benghazi Street, Wuse Zone 4, Abuja, the same location where Kogi State Governor Ahmed Ododo helped his predecessor evade arrest on Wednesday.
Reacting to EFCC’s announcement on Thursday, Mr Onanuga wrote on X: “Yahaya Bello, where will you run to? It’s better you submit yourself to the EFCC and stop running.”
He has since deleted the post.
EFCC declares Yahaya Bello wanted
Bello on Wednesday called on Tinubu to intervene and “call the EFCC to order”.
At the Federal High Court in Abuja on Thursday, the former governor, through his lawyer Abdulwahab Mohammed, asked that the arrest warrant issued against him be set aside.
He told Justice Emeka Nwite that the court lacked jurusidction to grant the order in the first instance. This was after an Ilorin High Court had restrained the EFCC from arresting or detaining Bello.
Mohammed said the Ilorin court order was challenged by the EFCC at the Court of Appeal and the matter was already fixed for hearing.
