Deputy Governor of Kogi State, Edward Onoja, has enrolled for a master’s degree in peace and conflict studies at the Federal University, Lokoja.
He revealed this on Tuesday via social media, saying he was targeting a PhD in 2023.
“Am back to school for a Masters in Conflict and Peace Studies, 2020 academic session, targeting a PhD in 2023,” he wrote.
Mr Onoja said he began classes on Monday and that his decision to go back to school was informed by the world’s need for “experts to keep up with the multifaceted conflicts”.
The 45-year-old studied geology and mining at the University of Jos and graduated in 1999.
Onoja, formerly chief of staff to Kogi governor, Yahaya Bello, was nominated deputy governor following the impeachment of Simon Achuba by the state assembly.
After being sworn in as deputy governor, Onoja joined Bello as his running mate and were re-elected in the 2019 governorship election in the state.
The state high court, however, on February 27 ruled that Mr Achuba’s removal was illegal and that Onoja’s nomination and swearing-in did not follow due process.
