Actors Yomi Fash-Lanso and Laide Bakare have been spotted at the ongoing Udiroko Festival in Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State. The festival coincides with the celebration of Isese Day held on Tuesday.
Images and videos from the event shared on Wednesday on the official Instagram page of the festival, features these actors along with Shola Kosoko and Foluke Daramola.
The footage showcases the vibrant atmosphere as the actors joined the community in celebrating the historical event.
The Udiroko Festival, which dates back to 1310 during the reign of Oba Awamaro, marks the inaugural gathering of the ancestors of Ado Ekiti after their long journey from Benin. The festival’s name, “Udiroko” is derived from the first celebration which took place beneath an Iroko tree at the palace of the reigning Oba at the time.
The Ewi of Ado-Ekiti Oba Adeyemo Adejugbe in 2022, addressed misconceptions about the festival. He clarified that the Udiroko Festival is not linked to idolatry.
The festival spans nine days, having commenced on Wednesday, with a Thanksgiving service scheduled for Sunday.
The Udiroko Festival coincides with the Isese Day observed on Tuesday as a public holiday in some states, including Lagos, Osun and Oyo.
