Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike has addressed those questioning his decision to invite Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to commission Orochiri-Worukwo (waterlines) Flyover in Port Harcourt.
Speaking at the commissioning on Monday, Wike said he did not understand what the fuss was about.
The governor has been making strange moves since his cold war with his party’s presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar began. Wike was overlooked by Atiku for the vice-presidential slot.
In July, Wike hosted some APC governors, which included Sanwo-Olu, in Port Harcourt.
Addressing his critics at the commissioning of the project, Wike said, “Since people knew you (Babajide Sanwo-Olu) were coming to commission this flyover, so many people have been saying ‘Why did you invite Lagos State governor?’ Why now? And I asked them ‘When is the time stipulated to invite you (Sanwo-Olu) to come and commission flyover?’
“The minister of works (Babatunde) Fashola was here, governor of Ekiti State was here, minister of sports was here, minister of health was here, vice president was here. So why is this one troubling people? Those of you who want to have hypertension, have hypertension.”
Wike also said he is aware that some persons said he was possessed with the spirit of flyover and that he is not paying salaries, pensions and gratuities. The governor said the state does not owe any worker or pensioner.
Sanwo-Olu commended Wike for his strong commitment to the delivery of physical infrastructure in Rivers State, noting that the governor’s effort has been recognised by all and sundry and has earned him the appellation of “Mr. Projects” within and outside Rivers State.
