Emir of Kano Muhammad Sanusi II on Thursday said his former boss ex-President Goodluck Jonathan “constructively dismissed” him as governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).
Sanusi made the statement at the launch of a book, Public Policy and Agents Interests: Perspectives From The Emerging World, which he co-authored with a former minister of planning Shamshudeen Usman.
Earlier at the event, Jonathan said he only suspended Sanusi after the latter claimed $49.8 billion had gone missing. The former Nigerian leader said he could not bring Sanusi back because the latter’s tenure had elapsed.
Sanusi went up to the podium hours after Jonathan’s comment, insisting that he was sacked.
“My boss who sacked me. I was constructively dismissed. I continue to respect Jonathan and I don’t have grudges against anyone,” he said.
Meanwhile, Sanusi also spoke on the Dangote refinery, saying Nigeria is supposed to be maximising the benefits of ending fuel importation.
“Instead of grabbing this opportunity we are frustrating it. This is due to vested interests,” he said.
“People get into office and what they think is how much they can get from the state,” Sanusi added.
