Actor Patrick Doyle has knocked singer Davido for his recent comments about Nigeria’s economy during an interview on the US podcast, The Big Homies House.
Patrick expressed his displeasure on Facebook, sharing a photo of the singer while condemning his remarks about the country.
“You have to be incredibly dense to ask foreigners not to visit a country where your father has a $2 billion power generation investment.
“Some persons ought to know much better.”
His post was a direct response to Davido’s statements on the podcast, where the singer spoke candidly about Nigeria’s current economic struggles.
In the interview, Davido described the country’s economy as “in shambles,” highlighting issues such as poor leadership, the high exchange rate, and soaring oil prices.
“It is not cool back home,” he said.
“I do my part, I am an ambassador. When I go home and I am filming, I am not going to show the bad parts.”
He continued to elaborate on the challenges, mentioning that Nigeria, despite being an oil-producing nation faces unusually high oil prices, comparing it to countries that import the commodity.
“Imagine the country that produces oil, paying more for it than a country importing oil,” he noted.
However, Davido also emphasised the positive influence of Nigeria’s entertainment industry, which he credited with uplifting Africa’s global image.
“Regardless, entertainment is one of the things that has made Africa look good. We do not have the best leader, that is a fact,” he said.
Patrick’s reaction has fueled debate online, with some supporting his criticism of Davido’s remarks, given the singer’s ties to significant investments in Nigeria.
Others have defended Davido’s comments as honest reflections on the country’s challenges, stressing the importance of transparency from public figures.
