Gospel singer Tope Alabi has reacted to the death of her younger colleague and mentee Aduke Ajayi popularly known as Aduke Gold.
The news of Aduke Gold’s death was announced earlier on Tuesday by fellow gospel artiste Esther Igbekele who wrote on Instagram: “A general has fallen. RIP.”
The cause of her death had yet to be disclosed.
Tope said in an Instagram post that Aduke knew she loved her, but Jesus loves her more.
“Aduke, you knew I loved you, but Jesus loves you more. Rest in perfect peace,” the ‘Yes and Amen’ singer wrote.
Initially known as Aduke Penkele, the late musician later adopted the stage name Aduke Gold on the advice of her mentor, Tope.
Aduke Gold won the hearts of many with her breakthrough single, ‘Nitori Ogo,’ which translates to ‘Because of Glory.’
In 2020, Tope and Aduke performed the song together during the former’s 50th birthday celebration.
That same year, Aduke revealed in an interview that her gospel role models were D.A Fasoyin, The Ayo ni C&S choir, Telemi, J.A Adelakun of the Ayewa fame, Yemi Olabanji, Bola Are, Tope Alabi and Sola Allyson.
