Comedian Gbenga Adeyinka has recollected some of his childhood memories about Afrobeat legend Fela Anikulapo-Kuti and how his family reacts to his music.
The 55-year-old said growing up, some songs were frowned upon in his household and anyone who listens to Fela’s songs must be smoking Igbo.
Gbenga Adeyinka said this while speaking at the recent J9C 12 anniversary lecture held in Lagos.
He said in parts: “Growing up there are some songs you will not even listen to. I remember for a long time, it was not until I got to the university that I started listening to Fela because in my house, you mistakenly listen to Fela, you have started smoking Igbo.
“Those days there were some songs that they will play, you will be shaking.”
