Actor Yemi Solade has fired back at a critic who took issue with his performance in the new film 5Alive.
Yemi, alongside co-star Sanusi Izihaq popularly known as Apa became the center of controversy following a movie promotion that stirred strong reactions.
The uproar began when fellow actor Rotimi Salami, who has been actively promoting the film shared a video on Instagram on Monday.
The clip showed Yemi and Apa in an intimate scene that portrayed the two men as lovers.
Yemi’s display of affection—pecking Apa on the cheek and holding him in a tight embrace—was unlike what audiences are accustomed to in the largely conservative Nollywood industry.
Critics were quick to react, accusing the actors of attempting to normalize homosexuality.
One particular critic, known simply as Dunni launched a personal attack on Yemi, writing in Yoruba, “Mo sorry but ara yin o ya,” which translates to, “I’m sorry, but you are not okay.”
Yemi clearly fed up with the insults, responded with a fierce retort replying in Yoruba, “OrĂ bĂ bá áşą to wĂ nà ọgbĂ wèrè lo Ĺ„ bá wĂ,” meaning, “It’s your father’s head in the asylum you are talking to.”
The exchange quickly gained attention, leaving many stunned by Yemi’s sharp comeback.
5Alive was released on YouTube on November 14, 2024.
The film features a diverse cast, including Allwell Adaramola, Rotimi Salami, Yetunde Odunsi, Jumoke Salam and Victoria Adeboye.
