The police in Zamfara State have announced the restriction of movement in Tsafe local government area of the state as a result of unrest in the area.
Zamfara police spokesperson Muhammad Shehu announced that movement had been restricted between 6pm and 7am, TheCable reports.
Mr Shehu said the restriction will be in force till the security situation improves.
Residents of Tsafe local government area hit the streets early on Monday to protest rising insecurity in the state.
The protesters barricaded the Gusau-Zaria highway linking the state to Kaduna, Kano, and Abuja.
An eyewitness said that the protesters destroyed political billboards of President Muhammadu Buhari and the state governor Abdulaziz Yari.
The protesters also reportedly burnt down the local government secretariat.
The protests which were dominated by youth and women later degenerated into a full riot.
“The protesters began by blocking the highway and burning tyres, but as we speak, the local government secretariat in Tsafe is on fire,” the eyewitness who declined to be named for security reasons said.
Earlier on Monday Senator Shehu Sani had raised alarm over the killings in the state, lamenting the slow response of the federal government and states to the killings.
He also said that the press was not treating the case seriously.
