Nollywood actor, Zubby Michael, has accused the organisers of the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards of being tribalistic.
The 35-year-old made the allegation on Instagram on Tuesday when he shared a screenshot of a conversation between him and another user on the platform about the awards.
Zubby, whose real name is Azubuike Michael Egwu, also complained that veteran actors such as Pete Edochie, Patience Ozokwor, and the late Sam Loco were not recognised at the ceremony.
“I’m sure most of the organisers are Yoruba. They did not even recognise the original pillars of Nollywood… Our dead heroes like Sam Loco and others were not mentioned,” he wrote.
Zubby is not the only actor to criticise the AMVCAs.
On Saturday, Richard Mofe-Damijo stated that if it were up to him, rapper Reminisce would have taken home the Best Supporting Actor award instead of Kenyan actor, Pascal Tokodi.
He wrote on Instagram: “If I was on the AMVCA jury for Best Supporting Actor, @iamreminisce in King of Boys would have been my pick…. alas, it’s not up to a jury! Welcome to Nollywood! Welcome to the AMVCAs!”
